Betaïne:
Did you know you could buy Betaïne at the farmacy? Betaïne is a substance commonly found in shellfish, slugs and fish. Betaïn contains an enzym that facilitates digestion, that's why it's available at the farmacy under the brandname Betaïne HCL.
The proportion Betaïn used is verry low. Don't use more then 0.4% in a total mix. That's 4gr / 1kg mix. Unless you have a verry sensitive weightscale it's best to ask the farmasist to devide it in packages of 2 to 4 gr, this way you can make as much mix as you want and still keep the right proportion of Betaïn.
Codliver oil:
Codliver oil has an unbelievable atraction to all fish. In the past it was made from wales, but these days it's made from cod. Codliver oil is packet with vitamines and minerals and can also be purchased at your local farmacy or even some healthshops.
Replace oil in your mix with codliver oil.
Homemade Robin red:
What you'll need... a bag of 'hot spice paprica' powder 1kg and a bag of red diye 500gr. (this can be bought with a birdseed supplier) Mix everything well and seal in airtight container.
Use 5 to 10% of this home made Robin red in your boiliemix.
Malachite green:
Did you know you could make a great antiseptic to put on the wound of a hooked fish. This antiseptic is called Malachite green and you can get this at your local pharmacy. Also get a bottle with a pipet, in the bottle you put the powder (2gram) and fill that up with distilled water. Watch out not to spill any on your clothes because this leaves unwashable stains.
After unhooking the fish, put a drop on the wound of the fish and rub in with a wet finger.
